In July 2024, Leong Chew Lee started her PhD in the Membrane Materials and Processes Group at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry at TU/e and Wetsus. She received her BSc in Chemical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia in September 2020. During her bachelor’s internship, Leong spent five months in the Membrane Technology Group at KU Leuven, Belgium. For her bachelor’s project, she focused on developing phase inversion membranes from cigarette butt waste for oil/water emulsion separation. She completed her MSc in Chemical Engineering from Universiti Malaya, Malaysia, in June 2024. where she studied the feasibility of the low dissolved oxygen biological nitrogen removal process for wastewater treatment in a pilot-scale reactor. For her PhD project, she will work on the development of high-throughput green membrane adsorbers using electrospinning for capturing selective per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) compounds from aqueous streams.
