RESEARCH PROFILE

Aaqib Saeed is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial Design at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), where he works in the Computational Design Systems cluster. His research interests lie at the intersection of Human-Centric AI, Self-Supervised Learning, Federated Learning, and Audio Understanding, with a focus on developing novel solutions for improving Personal Health.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Aaqib Saeed received his PhD (cum laude) in Computer Science in 2021 from the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), the Netherlands. His doctoral research was part of the Horizon 2020 EU-project SCOTT. Prior to his PhD, Aaqib obtained an MSc (cum laude) in Computer Science, specializing in Data Science and Smart Services, from the University of Twente, the Netherlands. During his master's, he was part of the Research Honors Program and a recipient of the competitive UT scholarship. Throughout his academic journey, Aaqib has gained valuable industry experience. He held positions as a Graduate Intern in Deep Learning at Philips Research and a Machine Learning Intern at EIT-Digital/TNO, as part of the EU-project Fit2Perform. During his PhD, Aaqib undertook multiple research internships at Google Research, focusing on self-supervised learning and machine intelligence. Before joining TU/e as an Assistant Professor in 2023, Aaqib held position of Visiting Industrial Fellow at the University of Cambridge, UK, in the Mobile Systems Lab. He also worked as a Research Scientist in AI at Philips Research, where he contributed to advancing AI for health and sensing applications.
